VEVRAA focused review scheduling notices on the way
During a webinar held on July 6, 2020, OFCCP Director Craig Leen told attendees that VEVRAA focus reviews were “about to start” and that scheduling letters were being sent in the next two weeks. Director Leen said that OFCCP is focusing on veterans with disabilities and military spouses, and wants government contractors to seek military spouses and veterans with disabilities when conducting their outreach efforts.
It is important to review the OFCCP Directive 2020-01: Spouses of Protected Veterans. According to the directive, OFCCP will interview employees to determine if they: (1) are a spouse of a protected veteran, (2) have any coworkers who are spouses of protected veterans, or (3) have any observations they have concerning the treatment of spouses of protected veterans. All covered contractors should have the following prepared, especially in the case of a VEVRAA focused review:
- A description of their assessment of personnel processes relating to veterans. OFCCP wants the contractor to provide a “description of the review” and not just the date the assessment was performed
- A schedule for the review of the most recent and date of next assessment of physical and mental qualifications with respect to veterans
- A letter of outreach and recruiting efforts to consider and hire veterans
OFCCP is also giving extra time due to COVID-19.
