OFCCP’s plan addresses emerging themes of trust, communication and training
In response to the GAO’s report titled Strengthening Oversight Could Improve Federal Contract Nondiscrimination Compliance published in 2016, OFCCP held town hall meetings seeking stakeholder input of ways in which it could improve its compliance assistance efforts. Based on input received at three town hall and three stakeholder meetings held in the fall of 2017, OFCCP develop an action plan to address the emerging themes of trust, communication and training. In developing the action plan, OFCCP considered its existing budget and human resources.
OFCCP is confident that the plan will not only address these themes but “will also contribute to the agency’s response to recommendations four, five and six in the GAO report. The following three initiatives were identified:
- Review and enhance contractor compliance assistance materials,
- Assess and improve the quality of contractor and compliance officer training and education,
- Increase transparency and communication with agency stakeholders.
For more detail as to how OFCCP plans to implement these initiatives, review the action plan. Notice that OFCCP is considering reinstating the ombudsman program to address communication and trust issues.
It is OFCCP’s goal “to create a noticeable difference in the quality, consistency and availability of compliance assistance materials and training resources. We also aim for bigger strides toward transparency with our stakeholders.
